Besides being a Biology Student Advisor, he is the director of Melodramatics Theatre Company, Inc. and is Study Group Leader for the Biology Scholars Program. For fun he likes to sing, read and hang out with friends. He has also studied abroad in Seville, Spain during Spring 2010. Doug Cassidy (djc93) is concentrating in Neurobiology & Behavior. He would like to go to medical school and hopefully specialize in orthopedics and sports surgeries. He is currently the Vice President and goal tender on the Cornell Men's Club Hockey team and has been the Philanthropy Chair and President of his fraternity. For fun he says, "I'm a big sports fan, when I'm not playing hockey I enjoy playing intramural sports with my friends or just watching TV and hanging out." He took two years off after high school and was worried about being overwhelmed at Cornell. One of the best things he could have done was get involved outside of academics to give him a much needed break. His favorite class at Cornell thus far is Anatomy and Physiology (NS 3410). He wants to remind students, "Cornell has a great support group and upperclassmen with a ton of experience and advice. Take advantage of the resources."

For fun she likes to play intramurals, wander in the plantations and gorges, consume inordinate amounts of bubble tea, and solve jigsaw puzzles. Her favorite class is Plant Physiology (BIOPL 3450). Luke DeFisher (led52) is concentrating in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and plans to pursue graduate studies in ecosystem management. He is a brother of Alpha Zeta fraternity and enjoys hiking and music. This summer, he will be working with Dr. Bonter at Shoals Marine Lab monitoring the reproductive success of the Island's gull population. His favorite course was Anatomy and Function of Marine vertebrates (BIOSM 3210). He highly recommends students to take courses at SML and to get to know their advisors. Michael Dubreuil (mmd232) is concentrating in Genetics and Development and plans to pursue a PhD after attending graduate school. He is currently conducting research with domesticated foxes at the Acland Lab and plans to get involved with Hortus Forum. This summer, he will be interning at Cell Signaling Technology in Salem, Massachusetts. During his free time, Michael enjoys playing guitar, riding his bike, and hunting for fossils. Alanna Durkin (agd44) is concentrating in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and plans to attend graduate school for a Masters in marine biology. She is an active member of the Cornell Big Red Marching Band and Pep Band, as well as a tutor for the Biology Learning Strategies Center. She currently works in the Hairston Ecology Lab and will be completing a research project at the NOAA lab this summer. For fun, Alanna enjoys baking, watching movies, and even discussing superheroes with her friends. Her favorite class was Intro to Oceanography (SEA 3660). Besides being a Biology Student Advisor, he is an Arts & Sciences Ambassador and a member of the musical theatrical troupe Melodramatics Inc. He loves theatre and writing. Last summer he was able to observe a human brain surgery and says, "It was AWESOME!" His favorite class at Cornell was his very first writing seminar-Writing to Change the World. He encourages freshmen to, "Follow your passions wherever they lead you. Even if you don't end up where you expected, you'll be where you're supposed to be."

Molly Edwards (mbe25) is concentrating in Plant Biology and plans to get her PhD in a similar field. She is a very active Cornellian, participating in Cornell Collegiate 4-H, Cornell Chorale, World Dance and Drum ensemble, Steel Drum Band, and Risley Residential College for the Creative and Performing Arts and does research in Dr. Scanlon's lab. She enjoys playing music, singing, and hiking. Her favorite classes have been Introduction to Botany, Plant Evolution (BIOPL 2410), and Plant physiology (BIOPL 3420). This summer, she will be returning to the New York Botanical Garden for a third summer of cyperaceae systematic research.

His advice to students, " Don't freak out about low grades, wait to hear the mean, and remember you're at Cornell University, feel better."

His favorite class was Human Bonding (HD 3620). For fun, he likes to watch television, read, and play tennis. He offers this advice for incoming Cornellians, "If you are lost or completely confused, you're not alone, but never settle for that. Go to office hours, email professors, ask other students, do anything in your power to figure it out because after all, you are at Cornell to learn."

Steven Zhang (sez24) is concentrating in Neurobiology and Behavior and plans to attend medical school after a gap year. He enjoys writing for the Daily sun, running, and playing basketball. His favorite class has been Darwinian Medicine (BIONB 4280). Steven has done research in the Department of Immunology/Microbiology and is going to volunteer in Kenya this summer. Fangfei Zheng (fz47) is concentrating in Neurobiology & Behavior. After graduation she hopes to attend medical school. Outside of being a Biology Student Advisor, she is the treasurer for Operation D.E.E.P. and is a member of the Cleland Lab. In her free time she enjoys cooking for her friends. Some of her favorite classes have included Organic Chemistry (CHEM 3570/3580) and Biopsychology of Learning & Memory (BIONB 3280).
