Associate Director of Undergraduate Research
Colleen joined the OUB advising team in 2011. Colleen loves talking science with students. Her niche in the OUB is helping students get started in research in the life sciences and advising on academics and careers. She works in partnership with biology student advisors, the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board (CURB), and research faculty to help students discover all of the exciting research possibilities at Cornell. Colleen’s areas of expertise include obtaining undergraduate research funding, finding a research job during the gap year, and preparing for graduate school and health careers. Colleen coordinates the Biology Honors Program for seniors and the Biology Research Fellows Program in collaboration with The Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI). In summer, Colleen directs the Summer Institute for Life Sciences (SILS) in which over 100 students participate in professional development in areas such as research ethics and scientific e-literacy and present their research at summer’s end in an undergraduate research symposium.
Colleen has spent her career on the Cornell campus doing science and continues to find the spirit of scientific exploration and creativity here as exciting and inspiring as ever. When not working for the largest major on campus, Colleen enjoys free time with her family in the forested hills of Brooktondale, gardening, kayaking and hiking in summer, and cross-country skiing out her back door in winter.
