Lili Steel ’23

Lili is concentrating in General Biology with plans to take a gap year before starting medical school after graduation. She would love to use that year to travel and apply her love for global health; she is also contemplating completing a Master’s in Public Health during that time. Around Ithaca, she volunteers for both the Southern Tier AIDS program and the Food Bank for the Southern Tier. On-campus, she is involved in Phi Delta Epsilon, a professional fraternity, and Kappa Alpha Theta, a social organization. Lili also conducts research in the Finkelstein lab for about a year where the focus of their research is nutrition, maternal and child health and infectious disease. For fun, she enjoys hiking, going to the beach, spending time at the gorges, and walking around campus. She also likes to read and nap when she has the time along with cooking. Her favorite class is NS 2600: Introduction to Global Health, because it has expanded her perspectives on learning and public health the most. Last summer, she worked with the Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement in Mysore, India working on COVID-19 surveillance data. She also participated in an in-person internship with local hospitals in California. Lil is looking forward to a (hopefully) in-person BioFest this school year! Her words of advice for new students: “Ask questions! We all have loved our time at Cornell and are excited to share with you what we have loved and help you out!”
