Simon Ortiz ’22

Simon is concentrating in Molecular & Cell Biology with plans on taking a bridge year; during this year, he plans on either working as an EMT or finding a position in a lab outside of Cornell. Afterwards, he plans on enrolling into medical school. On campus, he is involved with Alpha Iota Gamma, a preprofessional fraternity, and BSP, Biology Scholars program. In addition, he is in the Marjolein van der Meulen’s research lab that focuses on the study of Osteoarthritis as well as a TA for Chem 2070. To relax, Simon likes to play sports and go out with friends to enjoy the Ithaca area. During the winter time, he likes to watch Netflix or HBO max. Simon’s favorite class is CLASS 2604: Greek Mythology because it was a fresh breath of air from the sciences, and he learned some great stories about the Greek gods. Last summer, he studied for the MCAT and conducted research virtually for his lab at Cornell. This school year, Simon is looking forward to meeting the mentees in person and being able to make personal connections with the incoming students!
