Most of the opportunities we have for undergraduates involve summer REU positions at my field site in central coastal California (Hastings Natural History Reservation). Common loons are fish eating water birds and are highly territorial on their breeding grounds. I study their vocalizations in an effort to understand what their signals mean. There are opportunities to do paid field work in Wisconsin during the summers and the analysis of sounds during the winter. learn more
